Modern Lounge
OK I have been away for a while trying my hand in London, whiles I was there looking for work on the net and going from company to company I got to see the standards in quality of work that most of the 3D artists in the UK, I had come across a few fellow artists that did some work for Internal Decorators and I wanted to see if I could pull off something similar or better. In doing this side project I found quite refreshing from the usual character and media stuff that I normally work on.

SteamPunk It
I'm a fan of Star Wars and a big fan of all things that are SteamPunk, so why not combine the two? I don't know if it has been done to a AT-ST Imperial Walker (for those of you who do not know what a walker is,well its the two legged mech that kind of resembles a chicken in the way it walks in Star Wars (Return Of The Jedi) and somewhere on youtube someone has done a video edit using the chicken song with these walkers). Anyways back to my model, so I firstly modelled the Walker to spec then went SteamPunk on it I don't knw if it was the right way to do it but hey it worked for me. This was also the first time I used Fluid Simulation for the smoke and so this was the out come.

The Valkyrie
Here Is a model that I have been so eager to do, since I was very young I wanted to design cars If I couldn't do that, I would have gone into animation and we all know how that turned out.
Anyways I had design a car that I thought looked Futuristic, Mind Blowing Fast, Slick and Gorgeous to look at. My inspiration for this design was the lambo LP640 and the Bugatti Veyron which in themselves are truly works of art and engineering And I only wish to reach such pure design and style.
So took my time on this one and its still going through changes as one can never be too happy with a design. You will see From the 1st design to the last one how much its change and yet stayed the same.
The word Valkyrie means "chooser of the slain", derived from Old Norse valr "the slain" and kyrja "chooser". In Norse myth the Valkyries were beautiful maidens who led heroes killed in battle to Valhalla, also known as the soldiers angel.
They themselves were fears warriors, Strong, Fast, and Beautiful hence why I have chosen the name Valkyrie for my concept car
Still a working progress....

Character design
I'm not just into modelling inanimate objects like cars and furniture, I also like making characters which is a whole new ball game when it comes down to it because you gotta think really well how and what your character is gonna do and that judges how you model it so here are a few that I have done. Note most biped (that's 2 legged) characters have a more or less the same structure.
Each character took approximately 2 Days with a full working rig thanks to setup machine.

Vespa Photograph
Ok so I modelled a Vespa since I think they are really cool. So for this little still I have one Area Light with shadow casting and two reflection boxes.
I also use a IBL system using a HDRI map. I rendered three passes: a Colour pass, a AO pass and, a Depth pass, its all then comped in Photoshop, where I did a few colour adjustments and extra details like the scratches on the photograph.

A loundge at sunset.
Here was a small project on lighting I set for myself. The aim of this was to light this lounge as if it were in sunset I started by modelling all the props for the set then texturing them and in the lighting it.
There are two area lights and one ambient light and then Globle Illum and Final Gather and for added reflections and lighting i also used a IBL using a random HDRI map for added effect :P.
I then took the imaged and did some post work on it just to get it to look just right.

New Reel
Its funny that how much a CV can cost you in getting that awesome job you always wanted.
Well for the 3D Business side of things its not what your cv looks like but what your reel looks like. For those of you who don't know what a reel is its sort of like a cv but its done in a video reel format showing your best work and skills off.
You just don't put all your work on there so I have learn t the hard way when I 1st started in 2007 of in 3D fresh out of collage. With little knowledge of how this business works I stuck all my crap work mixed with my good work into a jumble piled reel that was badly put together I mean my 1st reel was bad really bad.
I had gotten all the things that I had done in 3D and had put them in a video clip and sent it off to a few companies hoping that i would impress these guys, little did i know that this shitty badly put together reel will decided my future with a good animation/advertising/media company is quite a scary thing. So as you guessed i didn't get I didn't get the job so i decided to go on it on my own I worked 7 months over in the USA doing Graphic Design and some 3D reworking my skills and trying to improve on them and yes improve my dodgy reel.
So I made my 1st good enough reel to get some attention from a company in Portugal which had open doors to a large well known company known as Portugal Telecommunications or also known as PT. After working there for a year I then desided to go back home back to Bright And Sunny South Africa! Where I got to Work in a real Animation Studio which was awesome and I had thought I had found my awesome company and awesome job, yes, yes I use the word Awesome a lot so get used to it. I worked at this company for over a year and a half and it was a eye opener.
Its now 5 months since I worked there and now I have a new conquest and that's to work in London for a BIG ADVERTISING/MEDIA/3D STUDIO, which I have Always dreamed
So hence why the New Reel I need to impress the socks off these guys cause they are the big leagues
So this is where I'm at, just sitting here banging my head against the wall thinking on how to redo my reel and have no clue on where to start.
I already have a reel and its not bad from what I have been told and yet I still can't seem to get any breaks. All I really ever wanted was to work for a big company.
My Family and Friends all tell me to be patient and things will work out and that I'll see it will happen.
