Its funny that how much a CV can cost you in getting that awesome job you always wanted.
Well for the 3D Business side of things its not what your cv looks like but what your reel looks like. For those of you who don't know what a reel is its sort of like a cv but its done in a video reel format showing your best work and skills off.
You just don't put all your work on there so I have learn t the hard way when I 1st started in 2007 of in 3D fresh out of collage. With little knowledge of how this business works I stuck all my crap work mixed with my good work into a jumble piled reel that was badly put together I mean my 1st reel was bad really bad.
I had gotten all the things that I had done in 3D and had put them in a video clip and sent it off to a few companies hoping that i would impress these guys, little did i know that this shitty badly put together reel will decided my future with a good animation/advertising/media company is quite a scary thing. So as you guessed i didn't get I didn't get the job so i decided to go on it on my own I worked 7 months over in the USA doing Graphic Design and some 3D reworking my skills and trying to improve on them and yes improve my dodgy reel.
So I made my 1st good enough reel to get some attention from a company in Portugal which had open doors to a large well known company known as Portugal Telecommunications or also known as PT. After working there for a year I then desided to go back home back to Bright And Sunny South Africa! Where I got to Work in a real Animation Studio which was awesome and I had thought I had found my awesome company and awesome job, yes, yes I use the word Awesome a lot so get used to it. I worked at this company for over a year and a half and it was a eye opener.
Its now 5 months since I worked there and now I have a new conquest and that's to work in London for a BIG ADVERTISING/MEDIA/3D STUDIO, which I have Always dreamed
So hence why the New Reel I need to impress the socks off these guys cause they are the big leagues
So this is where I'm at, just sitting here banging my head against the wall thinking on how to redo my reel and have no clue on where to start.
I already have a reel and its not bad from what I have been told and yet I still can't seem to get any breaks. All I really ever wanted was to work for a big company.
My Family and Friends all tell me to be patient and things will work out and that I'll see it will happen.
